Gurudwara Sheesh ganj is the matrydom of sage prophet Guru Teg Bahadur as a symbol of unique sacrifice. This is located at chandni chowk in Old Delhi opposite to the red fort. Gurudwara Sheeshganj was built on the place where Mughatl emperor auragzeb beheaded the ninth sikh guru shri Teg Bahadur. Literally sheesh mean the head as Guru was killed with his discipline for protesting against forced conversion of kashmiri hindus by Aurangzeb.
It is said that his followers secretly took the Guru's head to Anandpur Sahib and his body was taken for cremation to a house which is today known as Gurdwara Rakab Ganj. Shish Ganj is a prominent pilgrim center of the Sikh Community and it is equally revered by the Hindus. It is important to mention that when the Sikhs came into power in Punjab,after pushing out Afghans, they fought pitched battles with the Mughal forces on the sandy beds of Yamuna river, where now stands Indraprastha Indoor Stadium. A small Gurdwara indicates the spot near the Indraprastha power station, where two forces clashed for supremacy.
As per the sikh ritual person have to remove socks and shoes also cover his head with scarf. On entry you can listen the provoking sayings of elder chant and can watch people praying to the sikh god. At the community kitchen, where faithful people denote their time in service by cooking, sweets, okhra, chapatti and to serve who come to gods door. As per the ritual you will also given sweets in banana leaf. So in concise we can say that its really great place to visit while having holidays in delhi.
